The four neighbours
✓ With solution
Four children, four houses, four pets. Six clues are enough to find who has the fish.
A small street has four houses side by side in a row, numbered 1 to 4. Layla, Omar, Huda and Yusuf live there, one in each house, and each has a different pet: a cat, a bird, a fish and a rabbit. (Neighbours means houses right next to each other.) The clues: (1) Omar lives at one end of the street. (2) The bird is in house 2. (3) The cat's owner lives in the house after Huda's, so its number is one higher than hers. (4) Layla doesn't have the bird. (5) Huda and Yusuf are not neighbours. (6) Layla is a neighbour of the rabbit's owner.

Answer: B) Omar. Where does Huda live? Not house 1, because the cat would then be in house 2, which is the bird's house. Not house 4, as there is no house 5. If she lived in house 3, Yusuf (not her neighbour) would be in house 1, Omar would take the other end, house 4, and Layla would be left in house 2 with the bird, which clue 4 forbids. So Huda is in house 2 with the bird, and the cat is in house 3. Yusuf isn't her neighbour, so he is in house 4; Omar takes the other end, house 1; and Layla is in house 3 with the cat. Layla's neighbours are Huda (the bird) and Yusuf, so Yusuf has the rabbit, and the fish belongs to Omar.
